The health and well-being of our students is a priority at Bishop Carroll Catholic High School. The Health Room, located next to Room 501, serves as a resource for students who become ill or injured during the school day and provides support for a variety of health-related needs.

Our school nurse works closely with students, parents, and staff to promote a safe and healthy learning environment. Services provided through the Health Room include first aid, medication administration, management of chronic health conditions, health screenings, immunization compliance, and care coordination for students with medical needs.

This page contains important information regarding immunization requirements, medication policies, health forms, and other resources to help ensure your student's health and safety throughout the school year. If you have questions or need assistance, please contact the Health Room directly.

Health & Immunization Requirements

Immunizations

All students attending Bishop Carroll Catholic High School must comply with Kansas K–12 immunization requirements and have a current immunization record on file. Students who do not meet state requirements may be excluded from attending classes.

Exemptions
  • Medical Exemption: Requires a completed KCI Form B signed by a physician.
  • Religious Exemption: Requires a completed Religious Exemption Form.

Exemption forms must be renewed annually.

Vaccine-Preventable Disease Exposures

Students with approved medical or religious exemptions may attend school unless there is an outbreak of, or exposure to, a vaccine-preventable disease.

Parents are responsible for notifying the school if their child has been exposed to a vaccine-preventable disease outside of school.

Students excluded from school due to an outbreak or exposure:

  • Will be expected to keep up with schoolwork during the excused absence.
  • May not participate in any school-sponsored activities, athletics, or extracurricular events during the exclusion period.

A student may return to school when:

  1. Public health officials determine the outbreak has ended;
  2. The required exclusion period has passed;
  3. The student contracts and fully recovers from the illness; or
  4. The student becomes immunized.

Common exclusion periods include:

  • Diphtheria: 28 days
  • Chickenpox (Varicella): 21 days
  • Mumps: 25 days
  • Measles, Rubella, and Pertussis (Whooping Cough): 21 days

Medication Policy

All medications administered during the school day—including over-the-counter medications such as Tylenol, Advil, Motrin, and Midol—must be dispensed by the school nurse or a trained staff member.

To administer medication at school, a completed 317-T Medication Authorization Form, signed by both a parent/guardian and physician, must be on file in the Health Room.

  • Students may not carry medication in backpacks, purses, or lockers.
  • Prescription medications must be provided in the original pharmacy-labeled container and will be stored securely in the Health Room.
  • Students may carry asthma inhalers and EpiPens if an Asthma Action Plan and/or Anaphylaxis Action Plan is on file.

A new medication authorization form is required each school year.
