We are pleased to announce that Bishop Carl A. Kemme has named a new full time chaplain and associate chaplain to BCCHS effective June 18, 2019. Our new Chaplain will be Fr. Ed Herzog and he will reside at St. Francis of Assisi rectory. Our new Associate Chaplain will be Fr. Andrew Bergkamp. Fr. Bergkamp will also be Parochial Vicar of St. Joseph Parish, Wichita.
Here is a statement from both priests reflecting on their new assignments.
It is with great joy that I announce that Bishop Kemme has named me the full time chaplain of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School effective on June 18th. This past year as the associate chaplain has been joyful and grace filled and I look forward to remaining with this community for the years to come.
As I mentioned last year, Bishop Carroll has a tradition of excellence academically, athletically, artistically, and most importantly, spiritually, and I’m humbled to continue to be a part of it. I’m excited that Fr. Andrew Bergkamp will be joining the Bishop Carroll team, and that for the second consecutive year we will have two priests serving the students, faculty, and staff at our great school.
Lastly, I would be remiss if I did not thank my predecessor and mentor, Fr. Sam Brand, for his spiritual and pastoral leadership of Bishop Carroll for the past three years. Having a year to serve under his leadership and learn from him has been invaluable to say the very least. If you see Fr. Sam please thank him for his years of service to Bishop Carroll, and I would ask that we all pray for him as he begins his new assignment as a pastor.
Please be assured of my prayers for all of you, and please pray for me as I begin this new assignment. Go Eagles!
-Fr. Ed Herzog
My name is Father Andrew Bergkamp and I am thankful and excited that Bishop Carl Kemme has assigned me to Bishop Carroll as assistant chaplain. I look forward to the opportunity to serve the Bishop Carroll community as I teach the Senior class along with Fr. Ed Herzog. As I assist Fr. Herzog in the role of chaplain, I am eager to get to know the student body and assist the school anyway I can.
I grew up West of Wichita in Garden Plain and after high school I attended Fort Hays State University. After graduating, I entered seminary formation at Kenrick-Glennon Seminary in St. Louis and finished my seminary education at Mundelein Seminary in Illinois. For the first two years of my priesthood, I have been an associate priest at Blessed Sacrament Parish.
I thank God for the tremendous blessings He has bestowed upon me, especially my family, Catholic faith, and vocation to the holy priesthood. The first two years of my priesthood have been very blessed and I am eager to begin the next chapter in my priestly ministry. Please pray for me and know that you are in mine.
-Fr. Andrew Bergkamp
