ACCOUNTING I

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

1.             Analyze and interpret business transactions related to accounting by classifying assets, liabilities, equity, revenue, and expenses.
2.             Interpret financial statements, proving the accuracy of records, and closing the ledger accounts.
3.             Demonstrate time management skills by completing assignments efficiently, legibly, and accurately.

ATTENDANCE:  All students are to be in class, seated and ready for work when the bell rings.  Failure to do so will result in one demerit (refer to agenda book for demerit policies).  When students are absent, it is their responsibility to check with the teacher and make arrangements to complete the work that was missed.  Advance notice will be given on all tests.  If you are gone on the day of a test, you will be expected to make it up the FIRST school day you are back (unless other arrangements have been made through the teacher).

BEHAVIOR:  Students are expected to demonstrate by their behavior and attitude that they are trying to learn.  Behavior that keeps other from learning will not be tolerated.  General courtesy and a positive attitude are qualities expected from all students.

CHEATING:  Students caught cheating will receive a zero on the assignment or test and your parents will be notified.  On the second violation, a conference with your parents will be required to continue this class.

ASSIGNMENTS:  Assignments are expected to be handed in by the designated due date.  NO LATE WORK WILL BE ACCEPTED!!!!!!!!! If you are absent, get your assignment(s) from your teacher the day you return.  Assignments missed because of out-of-school, in-school suspension, or unexcused absence will result in 50% credit given on the assignment(s), if it is turned in the next class meeting.

SUPPLIES:  Students are expected to bring necessary materials, pencil, accounting book, working papers, and calculator.  Students will not be allowed to leave the classroom to get these materials.

GRADING:  A final exam given every semester will account for 10% of your final grade.  I use the weighted average system for grading.  Participation will count for 10%, daily assignments 30%, and tests 50% for a total of 90%.  Semester Final (10%) + Semester Work and Tests (90%) = Final Semester Grade (100%).

You will receive a participation grade every day you are in class.  Failure to bring necessary materials, messing around or not working during class will result in loss of participation points.

The following grading scale will be used:

A+           98.5-100                B+           89.5-91.4               C+           80.5-82.4                               D+           71.5-73.4
A             93.5-98.4               B             84.5-89.4               C             75.5-80.4                               D             66.5-71.4
A-            91.5-93.4               B-            82.5-84.4               C-            73.5-75.4                               D-            64.5-66.4
F              64.4 & Below

GENERAL OBJECTIVES:

  1. Review typing techniques and concepts.  Emphasis on correct key stroking and technique.
  2. Introduce concepts and techniques in Microsoft Word, Access, PowerPoint, and Excel.
  3. Using the above applications, create resumes, research papers, databases, visual presentations, worksheets, and financial statements.
