Grading

I grade on the total point system. To figure your grade divide the total points possible into your total points earned. The grading scale is as follows:

A+   99-100         A     94-98        A-   92-93
B+   90-91           B     85-89        B-   83-84
C+   81-82           C     76-80        C-   74-75
D+   72-73           D     67-71        D-   65-66
F  Below 65

Your semester grade is based on the following
Semester Grade = 90%   Semester Test = 10%
Academic Standard
Fine Arts are academic courses and students are opened up to the world of Art, relate that information to their everyday lives and faith, and attempt to find their own style of creating art. Grades are given according to effort put forth in the projects and quizzes, as well as completion of all assigned work on time.
Cheating/Plagiarism
Cheating, tracing, or copying assignments will not be tolerated.  If this occurs, the student will receive no credit for that assignment, and a conference will be set for parent/teacher/student and administrator.  We use famous artwork/artists as a guide and teacher, but not for tracing or duplicating electronically.
Classroom rules:
This class will adhere to the school rules as outlined in the BC agenda book, including the use of cell phones and electronic devices, and any rules stated by the teacher.  Demerits will be given as needed.
~Students need to respect the room, supplies, and artwork of others
~Students will be in the room before the bell, or will be counted tardy
~Students will bring all needed materials to class: be prepared
~Students will not chew gum or eat in this classroom
~Students will clean up all working areas before the bell rings
~no artwork will be accepted containing objectionable materials, words, gestures, or form.  Teacher discretion will be the judge.
~Students will use class time to be creative and original in their projects; lack of using class time for art work will show in your grade.
~Conversation is a privilege, not a right, and will be taken away if abused.

Grading System:
Classroom Projects will make up the majority of your final grade.  Each project is worth 50 pts. and the rubric below is used to score each project.  New criteria are assigned to each project according to its relevance.

Art History and weekly quizzes on Artists/Art Periods make up another portion of your final grade.  A new topic will be introduced weekly, and a quiz will be given at the end of each week.

Sketchbook entries will make up another portion of your final grade.  Sketchbooks will be checked every three weeks.  Students are responsible for taking Art History notes, completing all sketchbook assigned activities, and spending approximately 1 hours worth of time working independently in the sketchbook over a three-week period

A self-chosen Independent Project makes up another portion of your final grade.  Independent Projects should be planned and approved early in the semester so that class time can be utilized to work on them when we are in-between classroom projects.  This independent project should be well thought out and should take quite a bit of time investment.  This project is also worth 50 pts and can make a big impact on your final grade – please give it attention and do not wait until the weekend before it is due.  The Independent project is due no later than the Monday of finals week.

We will end the semester with a Portfolio Review in which each student presents their entire semester’s work to the class.  Therefore, I will be collecting and storing all artwork until the end of the semester.  A grade will be given for this presentation that will make up half of the grade given for the Semester Test.  The other half of the Semester Test grade will be a written test over the Art History information covered in class.
I would like all students to feel successful and capable in this class…there will be all levels of talent, so just work on your own level. Best wishes for a great school year!
