IF TIME IS NOT USED WISELY STUDY TIME WILL BE LOST AND REPLACED WITH LECTURE OR ASSIGNMENTS. DURING STUDY HALL DAYS STUDENTS WILL BE GRADED ON HOW THEY INCORPORATE TAUGHT STUDY SKILLS IN OTHER CLASSES.  I WILL ALSO BE TRACKING THE STUDENTS PROGRESS IN OTHER CLASSES AND REVIEWING IT WITH THEM DURING THIS TIME.

Classroom Expectations:
< Students will come with all requested materials & Agenda
<Students will be in their seats for opening prayer when the bell rings.
<Computer use will be for approved purposes only (with teacher permission)
<Respect others, your teacher, and yourself as you would like to be respected.
<No eating, drinking (water bottles ONLY allowed) or chewing gum in class.
<I dismiss you at the end of class not the bell. (stay seated until I dismiss you)
<Respect your Classroom- no writing, sitting, leaning on desks.
<Follow all posted rules and those in the BCCHS Handbook
(demerits will result if any of these expectations are abused)

Assignments and Homework All assignments will be posted on the board. You should have very little homework.

Make Up Work: IT IS YOUR RESPONSIBILITY TO FIND IT AND COMPLETE THE ASSIGNMENT IN A TIMELY MANNER.
Make Up Test: Will be given before or after school on the day the student returns or by appointment or other arrangement agreed upon by both parties.

Cheating will not be tolerated in my class or from any other class. If a student is caught cheating he/she will be given a zero on the assignment/test and (the other teacher) parents, and administration will be notified.


Grading Information
I will be reviewing grades weekly with students in ALL their classes.   Agendas will be reviewed daily and be worth a considerable amount of their grade, Participation and Assignments, Tests, and Quizzes, and Projects will be expected throughout the semester.
Your Semester grade will be as follows: Total Points
1st and 2nd 9 wks : 90%  Agenda, Participation/assignments, Quizzes and Tests, and Projects.
Semester Exam: 10% Comprehensive Test
Grading Scale

A+ =   99-100               B+ =  91-90                C+ = 81-82                  D+ = 72-73
A    =   94-98               B  =   85-89                C   = 76-80                  D   = 67-71
A-  =   92-93                B- =  84-83                 C-  = 75-74                  D- =  66-65

Hall Pass-Sign In Sign Out
Students will have a limited number of passes per semester to use at your discretion to get items from lockers, go to the restroom, get a drink, etc... Anytime you step out my door you will sign out in your agenda, why you are leaving, where you are going, and must sign back in upon returning with the time. You will get 1 Extra Credit Point for each pass you have left and the end of the semester.

What is A+?  A+ is a virtual prescriptive learning program VPL and is used in many Kansas schools to provide courses for credit and for skill assessment.  Courses for high school credit are comprised of an initial assessment and lessons prescribed based on this assessment, offline assignments, review tests, and a final review test.
Points will be earned by taking acceptable notes for each lesson and performance on the lesson mastery test.

Students will be expected to show adequate weekly progress as they complete their assigned lessons.

All lesson mastery tests and the final exam must be completed in the classroom, with prior instructor permission.  All coursework must be completed by the scheduled end of the semester to receive course credit.

General Course Summary
In order to pass General Math, the student will need to:

  • Have a good attendance record,
  • Stay busy and on task the entire class period each day,
  • AND have a passing grade.

Grades in A Total Points method.  Points will be earned in the following categories:

  1. Mastery Tests / Review Tests On VPL or other Computer (or via other grading methods)
  • After completion of a lesson study and practice test, a Mastery test will be taken.  In order to pass the lesson, the student must score 80% or higher on the Mastery Test.
  • During the course, there are several Review Tests.  These are scheduled in the student’s Assignment List.
  1. Homework, Worksheets, Projects
  • Worksheet packets will be given as needed.  One will be due every week.
  • Projects will be assigned during this time also.
  • Fieldtrip reflections and Journals
  • Paper pencil homework assignments

 

  1. Notebooks, Participation, Quizzes, and Tests
  • At the end of each week, notebooks will be checked.
  • A participation grade will be assigned daily.  Points will be taken away if the student is off task, constantly talking with others, distracting others, or comes unprepared.
  • Quizzes/ Test will be given over topics as needed.

Assignments and Progress Reports

Each student will receive a progress weekly.  This will reflect progress made toward completion of the Assignment List and the course and other homework or areas to work on.  Students will be creating progress report throughout the class.

Classroom Conduct and Expectations
This is a condensed version of the traditional Math experience and will be individualized per student.  This will require you as the student, to work diligently and respectfully to maintain a good pace. Classroom disruptions and working on classes other then  General Math will not be tolerated.

You are expected to follow all rules in effect at Bishop Carroll High School and those of all faculty and teachers.

A few rules regarding A+ Apex or Other computer based course work.

      • You may not take a Mastery Test until notes have been checked.
      • Notes may not be used on Mastery Tests, but may be used on Practice Tests. (good practices but may make accommodations per student)
      • Lessons must be completed in order on the Assignment List unless told otherwise by a teacher.
      • Notes signed by the teacher may be used on Review Tests.

NOTE TO PARENTS- Parents will play a vital role in maintaining and making math usefully and appropriate as a live long skill.  It will be increasingly appropriate to math situations circumstances at home with your child and they will look to you for real world examples in the home setting.  Some math skills cannot be recreated in the classroom.

My goal as a teacher is to help each student to do his or her best to achieve academic success.  Students must exercise the virtue of fortitude to meet their individual challenges.  Working together we can have an enjoyable and productive semester!
