Available Hours: Due to coaching commitments only before school from 7:25 – 7:50
During winter sports season I will also be available after school from 3:15 – 3:45
Course Description:
This is a U.S. History survey course covering the early colonization of the Americas to the social and
economic changes of the 1920’s. Students will analyze key social, economic, and political activity throughout this time period.
Materials Needed:
Textbook: Pen & Paper
Agenda Notebook or Binder
Course Goals:
The continued development and formation of a young Catholic Christian.
The learner uses a working knowledge and understanding of the material outlined by the Kansas High
School History-Govt.-Economics-Geography assessment standards.

The learner engages in historical thinking skills.
Course Evaluation:
Quizzes and Tests: A Chapter Quiz will be given following the conclusion of each
Chapt. A Unit Test will be given following the conclusion of each Unit.
Homework: Independent readings, worksheets, maps, and textbook assignments will be assigned.
Projects: Projects will be assigned throughout the course. Students will be provided
rubrics to follow and graded on their ability to meet its requirements.
Participation: A weekly participation grade will be given. Student behavior, work ethic, and classroom
involvement will determine this grade.
Final Exams: A final exam will be given at the end of each semester. Final exams
will be cumulative and count towards 10% of the student’s overall grade.
Note: I reserve the right to assess student learning without prior notification.
Course Procedures:
Students will be in their seats with all required materials before the bell rings.
Grading Scale: The following will be used to calculate student’s semester grade.
Total Points = 90%
Semester Final = 10%
A+ 99-100 A 94-98 A- 92-93
B+ 90-91 B 85-89 B- 83-84
C+ 81-82 C 76-80 C- 74-75
D+ 72-73 D 67-71 D- 65-66
F Below 65
Late Work: All homework and projects will be due at the beginning of the hour on the date which it is due, unless otherwise specified. Homework turned in after this is late, late homework will be given a possible 75% credit. If late work persists beyond the Chapter Quiz a zero may be assessed. Suspension: half credit will be awarded for completed work.
Movies: Scenes from a variety of films will be shown throughout the semester. Their purpose is to aid students in their understanding and encourage critical thought on U.S. History. Permission slips listing the USCCB’s ratings will be sent home and must be signed before the student may watch a film. If permission is not granted an alternative assignment will be provided.
Academic Dishonesty:
Cheating will not be tolerated. Any form of academic dishonesty will merit a zero and demerit. I withhold the right to evaluate each situation though, and provide just consequences towards the deviating action.
Course Rules: Violation of the Course Rules will result in just consequences determined by the teacher, and administration as necessary.

The student will understand and have a working knowledge of governmental systems of the United
States and other nations with an emphasis on the U.S. Constitution, the necessity for the rule of law, the civic values of the American Constitutional democracy, and the rights, privileges, and moral responsibilities to become active participants in the democratic process and one's faith.
