The reflections will be the result of fairly brief writing periods within class time, often in the first minutes of class in response to a passage read or written on the board.  I will periodically grade these reflections and student notebook-binders.  Quality reflections are ones that are approached with a reflective seriousness and thoughtful attention.  Quality notebooks are orderly, readable, and include the date along with the most important information from each class lecture.

Make-Up Work:
In order to fully respect my time and that of your fellow students, for pre-arranged excused absences from class I ask that you speak with me regarding your absence prior to the day in order to complete any necessary class work ahead of time.

Late Work:
I grade assignments that are completed and ready to be handed in by the beginning of the class period on which they are due.

Supplies:
Please bring to class every day a 3-ring binder as your notebook with your last name clearly written in the top right corner on the front of the notebook, followed by your first name and class period.  This will be periodically handed in to me for a notebook assignment grade.

Expectations:

  • Please be on time and ready to work the minute the bell rings.
  • Please wait to pack up your belongings until I dismiss class.
  • Please be prepared with all necessary materials on hand and homework completed.
  • Please be present – your contribution to class is important and requires your attention.
  • Please be respectful – honor yourself and others by speaking and acting with care and wisdom.

I will follow school policy in all discipline issues – please refer to your student handbook or come to me for additional questions.  In addition, please communicate with me.  I am delighted to be here and am truly looking forward to knowing each one of you.  Please feel free to drop by my room to ask questions, communicate concerns, or just to chat.

Please detach the slip below and return it, signed by the appropriate people, by Friday, August 26th, 2011.

Syllabus

“I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).

Content:
This course is focused on the covenantal reality of the Old Testament.  God makes himself known to his people through Divine Revelation, and this is recorded in Sacred Scripture.  The Old Testament is foundational to religious education and the writings will be traced chronologically leading to the fulfillment of the Old Testament - the Incarnation.  The historical, spiritual, and fuller senses of Sacred Scripture will be explored, and applied to the student’s daily prayer life. The students are to have a working knowledge of the Old Testament.
