(only 70 pages each)(1 notebook is for 1st semester and the other notebook is for 2nd semester)

the class with any 2 of the following:
2 White board markers (colors other than blue and black)

Objectives: The goal of Spanish II is to enhance ability to be able to function in various situations in the language. Students will be linguistically challenged through a variety of classroom activities meant to augment speaking, listening, reading and writing abilities as well as increase cultural knowledge. To be successful in this course, students must prepare homework and review lesson material prior to the class period. Spanish will be the primary language of interaction in this class.
Grading Scale:
A+ 99-100 B+ 90-91 C+ 81-82 D+ 72-73 F 64 and below
A 94-98 B 85-89 C 76-80 D 67-71
- 92-93 B- 83-84 C- 74-75 D- 65-66
Composition of Grade:
27% Participation (attendance, preparation, participation in class, in-class work, group work, staying on task, effort and attitude)
18% Quizzes and Homework (workbook, compositions, projects and other assignments)
45% Oral and Written Tests
10% Final Semester Exam
Procedures:
Participation: Students are expected to actively participate in all class activities. Participation is defined as a student’s presence in class, Spanish preparation, oral presentations, etc. for that day, positive attitude, willingness and effort to participate in classroom activities. Please note that unpreparedness for class greatly inhibits class participation. Additionally all classroom activities like bell-work (‘Para Empezar’), games, speaking, listening, reading and writing activities will count towards the student’s participation grade.
Homework: Homework will be stamped for review or collected at the beginning of each class period.
Tardy work: Work completed &/or turned-in after class work has been stamped (or collected) on the due date will receive only ½ credit.
Late work: Work completed &/or turned-in after the due date. Students will have 1 opportunity to turn-in late work for credit each semester. Additional late work turned-in will not receive credit.
Make-up work: Students will have one class period for each class period missed to complete and turn-in make-up work. If work is turned-in later than this, it is considered late and subject to the late work policy. It is the students’ responsibility to obtain make-up work and or notes from the teacher.
Assignments: All assignments are due and will be stamped/collected at the beginning of each class period on their respective due dates. Any assignment not turned-in at this time will be considered late and the late work policy will be applied.
Bathroom passes: Students have 2 bathroom passes each semester. If additional bathroom passes are required, students will be required to make-up time spent out of the classroom in an after school setting with the teacher.
Extra Credit: By attending mass in spanish, retaining the misselette(bulletin), and writing a 3 sentence(at the least) summary in spanish of the sermon that day students may earn 10 points extra credit. If the student chooses to present their summary (read their summary) to the class, another 5 points extra credit may be earned. Only one extra credit assignment may be submitted a week. 30 points of this type of extra credit may be earned a semester.

Note: If Catholic mass in spanish is not an option, please see me during my office hours to discuss other extra credit options.
Rules resulting in demerit(s):
- Cell phones/I-Pods, or any other unnecessary electrical devices are not permitted in class. Any violation will result in the confiscation of the device. After the student serves a detention with the assistant principal, the device will be returned to the student.
- Students are required to be respectful of themselves and others. Behavior that is insulting, bullying, harassing or demeaning will not be allowed.
- Students are expected to not talk-out-of-turn (while the teacher or another student is talking, etc.). A demerit will be assigned and participation points for that day will be negatively impacted.
- Students are expected to be punctual to class. Unexcused tardies will result in demerit.
- Students are expected to respect school property. Defacing such property will result in demerit.
- Areas of the classroom marked Privado are off-limit to students. Infractions will result in demerit.
- All of the other school policies detailed in the agenda book will also be enforced.
