Charles Ebright- Head Coach

 

     Coach Ebright will begin his 10th Season as Head Coach at Bishop Carroll with a career record of 145-48. Since Ebright has taken over the program, the Eagles have won three city league championships, five regional championships and the schools first ever State Championship in 2005. The Eagles have held a top ten ranking 5A for almost six consecutive years. The Eagles were nationally ranked #13 by USA Today in 2002 and #12 by Collegiate Baseball in 2006. More than two dozen players during Ebright’s tenure have gone on to play in college. Ebright's coaching awards include 2001 and 2006 Kansas 5A Baseball Coach of the Year (KABC), is a three-time City-League Coach of the Year, 2005 All-Metro Coach of the Year and Kansas Coaches Association (KCA) 2005 and NFHS 2005 Baseball Coach of the Year. Before coming to Carroll Ebright was an Assistant Coach at Friends University. 

     As a player, Coach Ebright was named All-Panhandle Conference at Chipola Jr. College as an outfielder. He went on to finish his college career at Georgia Southwestern University, where he was voted Outstanding Senior and MVP by his Hurricane teammates. The 2005 summer he coached the Walter Johnson League, Wichita Gators in their first season leading to a bid at the National Baseball Congress. During the 2006 and 2008 NBC World Series, Coach Ebright was part of the coaching staff of the 4th place Lake Havasu Heat. During the 2007 NBC World Series, Coach Ebright was part of the coaching staff of the 9th place Park City Rangers. Coach Ebright is married to Jean Ann and they have two children, Jackson (8) and Lily (4).

Barry Newell--Assistant Coach

Barry Newell (Pittsburg State 95) enters his 2nd year coaching at Bishop Carroll. Barry is a former standout from Spring Hill High School. Spring Hill won the class 1A – 4A state championship in 1987, Barry’s junior year. 1998-91 he played at Highland Community College. The ‘91 team set a school record for wins with 34. Coach Newell then signed to play at Pittsburg state University.  A severe arm injury ended Barry’s playing carrer early at PSU.   

Barry came to Wichita from Rockhurst University after guiding the Hawks to the 1999 Division II World Series.  Barry coached for three seasons at Rockhurst University 1996-99. Under Gary Burns (Vanderbilt ’80) Barry oversaw recruiting and pitching duties. While at Rockhurst the team achieved record win marks along with earning a trip to the NCAA Division II World Series in their first year of NCAA competition. Two of Barry’s pitchers were drafted out of Rockhurst in his tenure. After the 1999 season Barry left Rockhurst to work on a Masters degree at Wichita State University, which he earned in July of 2001. Barry has coached in various summer programs such as  the Kansas City Seminoles a summer program for college prospects,. The Seminoles won over 300 games in coach Newell’s 8-year tenure, averaging 39 wins a season. Along with placing over 80% of eligible seniors on baseball scholarships, Barry had three players drafted, two who are currently enjoying major league carrers. He has served as a coach in various college summer programs as well, including the Kearney River Bandits (M.I.N.K.) league in 2002, Wichita (Derby) Twins 2003 & 2004, Wichita Gators 2005, and Park City Rangers 2006 - present. Coach Newell has also been a guest coach during Spring Training for the Kansas City Royals and Toronto Bluejays. He currently is the Owner of the Walter Johnson League and General Manager of the Park City Rangers a club that has finished in the top 10 of the NBC World Series and two time champion of the NBC Mid-West Regional Tournament.  Barry also served as the Head coach at Andale high school from 2004 – 2007 and has recently signed to be an Associate Scout for the Texas Rangers.

Barry is married to the former Sarah Jeter of Goddard; they have a daughter Piper Susanne (6) and two sons Peyton (3) and Porter (1).
