State Recap!
Last Saturday, November 24, the Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles faced the Bishop Miege Stags in the State Championship game. Everyone thought this was going to be a very good game to watch. In the first drive, the Eagles were forced to a quick three-and-out. The next time the Eagle offense had the ball was a different story, as Jalen Hernandez ran the ball in for Bishop Carroll’s first touchdown of the game. Shortly after that, Michael Leonard, on defense, had an easy interception and returned it for a touchdown.
The next points did not come until the second quarter when Jalen Hernandez ran for his 2nd touchdown of the game. Shortly after, Tory Smith ran for a 12 yard touchdown to put the Golden Eagles up 27-0. The Stags woke up and came at Bishop Carroll with a quick touchdown, before the end of the first half, to put the score at 27-7. The Eagles got the ball back and made a statement, as Zeke Palmer threw to Bryce Harvey for a 38 yard touchdown! Then, the special teams created havoc for the Stags as the Eagles caused them to fumble on the return. This lead to a big run from Tory Smith on a 25 yard touchdown run, Tory’s second touchdown of the day. Bishop Carroll scored all three of those touchdowns in 2 and a half minutes! The Eagles led going into the half 40-7.
Starting the second half, the Golden Eagles got the ball and ate up the clock. The Eagle offense went on a 7 minute, 14 play drive, that ended in a touchdown run by Denzel Goolsby. The defense then forced the Stag offense to another quick three and out. Palmer continued to hand the ball off to Goolsby as he ran for his second touchdown of the game. The Eagle defense made another statement, as Micheal Leonard picked up a fumble from the quarterback and ran it back for another touchdown!
The Eagle defense was so good that they only let the Stag offense score a total of 21 points. The defense also caused to 2 turnovers and ran them back for 2 touchdowns. Zeke Palmer had a great game as he threw for 352 yards and ran for 146! Palmer had this to say to catchitkansas, “This is the best team I’ve ever been on. Coming into today our team knew we were going to win one. We put in the work during the offseason and in-season and the confidence showed out there today.” Of course Zeke wasn’t the only weapon on offense, as Coach Schuckman coached the team to a perfect 13-0 season!
“I’m proud of the way our kids responded today,” said Schuckman. “It’s been a season of dominance and that’s a credit to our kids and coaches.” Coach Schuckman is very happy with how the season went and he feels that the team played exceptionally well throughout the season. Bishop Carroll defeated Bishop Miege 60-21.
Congratulations to the Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles finishing the season 13-0 and winning state!
