2014 Season Preview
The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles are looking to reload after last years’ heartbreaking loss in the State quarterfinals to Salina South. The Eagles return over half their starters from last year and are ready to get back on the field. Bishop Carroll is coached by Alan Schuckman who is entering his 20th season as coach of the Eagles, an impressive milestone.
The strength of the Golden Eagles is their tenacious defense that returns 8 starters from last year, including All-Metro defensive lineman Nick Nolting and two All-City players, linebacker Tommy Marquez and defensive back Mark Quaney. The defense looks to continue its dominance, after only giving up 199 yards per game last year. The defensive secondary is led by a couple of two year starters, seniors Josh Hornback and Mark Quaney. The defense returns their top two tacklers from last year, Nolting and Quaney, with 63 tackles each.
Senior defensive back Steven Smoll commented on the depth of the team saying, “We’re looking really good this year and we have chance to do a lot of good things. A lot of guys will be competing for spots this year.”
The offense lost their top running back and top wide receiver, so there are some big shoes to fill. However, the offense does return the deadly duo of quarterback Colton Howell and running back-wide receiver Denzel Goolsby, who combined for over 30 touchdowns last season. The offensive line will be headed by senior Jacob Streeter and returning starter Noah Johnson. They still look to improve on the almost 350 yards per game and the 64 touchdowns they put up last year.
The season starts off with a tough match up against the Northwest Grizzlies, who lost to the Eagles 12-7 last year. However, the road does not get any easier for the Eagles with a tough stretch of games against East, Kapaun, and Heights. After that, Carroll will face the rest of the City League and finish the year with a different regional consisting of Maize, Maize South, and Valley Center. Come out and support your Golden Eagles for the season opener versus Northwest, Friday, September 5th with kickoff at 7:00 at Northwest!

Season in Review
Coming off an undefeated state championship run in 2012, the 2013 Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles hoped to have the same fate this season. The Golden Eagles started off their great run going undefeated in the regular season, a feat only done 3 times in Bishop Carroll history. The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles defeated their cross town rivals, the Kapaun Mt. Carmel Crusaders, 42-10 to clinch the City League Title. Starting off district with wins against Eisenhower and Goddard, the Eagles traveled to Liberal and kept their district record flawless, defeating the Liberal Redskins 53-19. With the win, they clinched their District title, defeating their 3 opponents in district play 157 to 40. Starting the playoffs off with a win against the Newton Railers, the Golden Eagles played host to the Salina South Cougars in hopes of repeating another Cougar victory, similar to last year. The Eagles lost to the Cougars, falling short in the 19-21 loss, and ended their season with a 10-1 record. The Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles went 24-1 in the past two seasons, with many of their 25 seniors playing a large role in both impressive seasons. So thank you to the players and coaches that made this season so great and congratulations on yet an amazing season!
