Players say: “We have been really focused in these
final weeks,” said Carroll senior Brett Steven. “We have been having fun out
there, and getting it done.”
Berry’s View: The record doesn’t lie; Liberal is
a good team. A lot of people see Carroll as an underdog here, but I think
differently. Don’t let Liberal’s outstanding record scare you. Liberal is in
the Western Athletic Conference, which is nowhere near as good as the Wichita
City League. Carroll’s league has a different caliber of teams, including some
of the best teams in the state like Southeast and East. We play mostly 6A
schools and we have beaten a lot of them. Our record does not do us justice,
either. We might have started off a little slowly, winning one of our first five
games, but going into the postseason we have won nine of our last 10 games,
including games against Southeast, Northwest, and Heights. Our team is playing
better than I have seen it in my years of watching Bishop Carroll basketball.
That being said, Liberal is definitely no pushover team. They might be in an
easier league, but they still won that league. They are ranked third in the
state in 5A, much higher than Carroll. Leading the Redskins is senior guard
Marquez Patterson, who averages 19.8 points per game. He is the frontrunner for
this year’s WAC Player of the Year Award. If he is on, the Redskins don’t
lose. He might lead people to believe Carroll is the underdog, but I wouldn’t
have it any other way.
Prediction: Carroll shut down the perimeter game of Kapaun at sub-state. Kevin Klein did an exceptional job defending Kapaun’s best shooter, Brett Rickert. Klein contested every shot, making him go 0 for 10. I think Klein can do the same defensive job on the Redskin’s ace, Patterson. I also believe Brett Steven will continue to make big plays when we need them. With Patterson shut down and Steven in control on offense, Carroll wins this one 56-48.

We all know those people who just won’t be quiet during class. They won’t let the teacher teach or the students be studious. Every class has one of these “problems”, otherwise known as, the ornery annoyances.
They make the snood comments about characters in stories. They judge everything and make the most innocent words into raunchy statements. They take hardly anything seriously and what they do take seriously only turns out to not pertain to the subject at hand. For those of us who wish to learn and expand our knowledge this if very irritating. Call me a nerd, but I wish to read and enjoy Chaucer’s stories rather than hear each character is a homosexual, a player, or constantly high.
Sure random comments every once in a while can lighten the mood, but after every line of every epic poem or sonnet is just too much. Then there are the people who just won’t be quiet. Not necessarily pointless comments, but talk in general. I don’t care about what you did this weekend I care about getting this problem right and your talking is prohibiting my hearing and leading to me not understanding this. Sure I talk in class, but when the talking is constant, and while the teacher is talking, one can’t help but get frustrated.
Like I said before, call me a nerd, but I would really like to get these math problems down and learn about Shakespeare whether you like him or not.
