Season in Review:

Last Friday, March 7th, the Bishop Carroll Golden Eagles finished their season with a loss to the Hays Indians, a team who has remained undefeated throughout the season, who defeated the Eagles 55-38. The Golden Eagles’ record then fell to 8-15, finishing the season with a record over .500. For a team who was overlooked throughout much of the season, the Golden Eagles only won 1 of their first 6 games, however, many of their games were kept close, including a loss at home to Kapaun which was forced into overtime after a strong second half push by the Golden Eagles. After placing 7th place at the McPherson Tournament, the Golden Eagles finished the season heading into the postseason with a record of 7-13, clinching key victories over rivals Kapaun Mt. Carmel and Northwest. The Golden Eagles were placed as a 4th seed in the sub-state tournament, and defeated the 5th seeded Great Bend, moving on to face the 1st seed Hays Indians. The Golden Eagles lost the game and ended any hopes at a chance at a state title in Class 5A boys’ basketball. The Golden Eagles finished the year 8-15, and sent off 5 seniors including Matt Price, Monte Pascal, Brennon Benoit, Luke Hohl, and Simon Dulac. The Golden Eagles lived up to any preseason doubts and “silenced many haters” with their impressive season! Great season to the boys’ basketball team and check back next year for another exciting season!

Season in Review:

Making a run in the state tournament was the main goal for the three seniors who hoped to end their careers with a state championship; however, those goals were cut short with the loss suffered to the Eisenhower Tigers on Saturday, March 8th. The girls entered the season with high expectations, returning many of their starters that they had the year before. The girls went 2-2 in their first four games of the season, losing to powerhouses Kapaun and South. The Golden Eagles then went into the GWAL/AVCTL Tournament and defeated Maize South, starting their impressive 7-game winning streak. The streak that they had was ended by Newton in the Newton Tournament, and the girls settled for fourth place in the tournament. Coming out of the tournament, the Golden Eagles had to face Kapaun and South for the second time, and suffered loss by the two teams again, serving as 4 of Carroll’s 7 losses on the season. The girls won their last four games, and headed into sub-state as the second ranked seed in their bracket. Facing a team they had already seen previously in the season, the Golden Eagles demolished the West Pioneers 75-15, and hoped to defeat the lower ranked Eisenhower Tigers; however, Carroll had their hands full when facing the Tigers, and after a game that went into overtime, the Golden Eagles had their season ended in a 56-57 loss. The Golden Eagles season was nothing short of impressive and one that seniors Jordyn Miller, Hunter Hogan, and Rachel Doerneman could look back on and be proud of. In many of their wins, the Eagles dominated teams, and even in their losses the games were close, as shown in the last game of the season. The Eagles finished the season 15-7 to end yet another great year. So great season to the girls’ basketball team and check back next year for yet another exciting season!
