History

May 2005 – Winfield, KS – 5A State Champions

The Eagles rebounded from a slow 5-4 start to a rally off 14 of the next 15 games all the way through the state title game.  The toughest hurdle was the semifinal game vs. the Topeka Seamen, who had defeated Carroll 2-1 in the 2004 playoffs.  Clutch hits by the 7 and 8 hole, Brian Kruetzer and Daniel Howard backed up great pitching performances by Gage Stephen and Josh Bird.

The Championship game was started by Alex Kruse and closed again by Josh Bird. The Eagles clicked in all facets of the game. Great defensive plays were made by Brian Orth and Anthony Salinas.
This was the first state championship in baseball in the 40 year history of Bishop Carroll Catholic High School.  It was also the first state championship by a City League team in 25 years.
Special thanks go out to the coaching staff for all their hard work and to all those fans that made our season one to remember.

May 2012 – Eck Stadium, WSU – 5A State Champions

Game one of the state tournament resulted in a dominant pitching performance by ace Seth Holman. The complete game on just 67 pitches would pay dividends the next day. Holman was backed up by great defensive plays by 1st Baseman Evan Koehler, Catcher Taylor Sanagorski, and LF Zeke Palmer. Defeating a talent Mill Valley 3-1 was just the start.

The semifinal game vs Topeka Seaman saw another dominant pitching performance by Sophomore Jordan Miller. Miller threw a complete game 5 hitter allowing coaches to save pitching for the championship game. The 5-1 victory saw 7 different players with hits during the game and five separate players driving in runs. A great team victory.

For the Championship game coaches chose to start closer, Matt Henning. Matt’s longest outing of the season had been five innings in the middle of an epic 14 inning victory over Heights. Henning took his team into the 7th inning with a lead. Holman would return to seal the victory with a save that led to a massive celebration. Tanner Palmore led the game off with a triple and Sanagorski finished with 3 RBI’s, the last of which, pitcher Jacob Schwindt stole home on an attempted squeeze play.

It is interesting to note the two members of our coaching staff, Paul Sanagorski and Brent Holman got to celebrate a state championship with their sons. This was truly a special moment in the lives of these families and our program.
