Answers for
Parents
Bishop Carroll Catholic High School is
self-supporting, receiving no money from local, state or federal taxes or from
the Diocese of Wichita. Independent,
non-parochial schools, like Bishop Carroll, rely on stewardship, some tuition
income, annual contributions, endowment income and other fundraising efforts to
meet operating expenses.
While being a diocesan school can be a challenge, it allows us the flexibility
to design our own programs to fit the values and beliefs of our Bishop Carroll
tradition. The gift you make today
ensures that we are able to sustain this mission for years to come.
We hope this article, with answers to the most commonly asked questions, will
help you further understand our development initiatives.
I support the school by tithing/ paying tuition.
Why doesn’t Bishop Carroll
just raise fees to cover the costs?
Stewardship, tuition and fees cover approximately 79% of the cost of a Bishop
Carroll education. Like most
private religious schools, Bishop Carroll relies on charitable giving to bridge
the gap between revenue and expenses. The
administration. School Council, and Parents’ Organization are committed to
making a Bishop Carroll Catholic education affordable to as many families as
possible while maintaining the small, diverse community that makes Bishop
Carroll such a special place. Your
gift to the Annual Fund is also tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law,
whereas tuition is not. Your Annual
Fund gift may also qualify for a matching gift from your employer, which may
allow you to double or even triple your support. Tuition is not eligible for such matching gifts.
What is the Annual Fund?

yearly basis. The money raised

budget, we must turn to parents, grandparents, past parents, alumni and friends
for financial support. Know that

Catholic out of gratitude for the opportunities a Bishop Carroll education has

When can I make my donation?
An endowment is a gift of money or other assets received by the school,
often for a specific purpose. The
principal is preserved and only the earnings and interest are used.
Endowments, carefully managed for growth as well as current income, are
the foundation for the long-term stability and success of the school.
A named fund becomes a permanent tribute to the person whose name it
bears and may always be augmented. In
many families donating to a grant fund established years ago has become a
multi-generational tradition. Donors

an existing endowed grant simply by making their gift and indicating an endowed

also be created at any time with money being allocated once the fund has reached
$1 million.
