National History Day Advancements

Sixty-nine Bishop Carroll High School students participated in the regional National History Day competition at Wichita State University on February 29.  Eighteen of those students placed in the top three in their category.   These students were: in Historical Papers, 3rd place, Drew Hoffman, 2nd place, Shauna O’Dell, 1st place, Rachel Stanley; in Group Exhibits, 3rd place, Patrick Berry and Lucas Schippers, 2nd place, Trevor Steinbrock and Brian McMillan, 1st place, Sarah Scrafford and Anh N. Nguyen; in Individual Exhibits, 3rd place, Gretchen Strathe, 2nd place, Anh H. Nguyen, 1st place, Shelby Brown; in Group Documentary, 2nd place, Rebecca Ast and Sam Lenz; in Individual Documentary, 1st place, Nathan Fisher; in Website Design, 2nd place, Matt Voboril, 1st place, Christine Barragree and Kayla Clasen.  Those students finishing in first and second place will be moving on to state competition in Topeka on April 26.

National Honor Society

The National Honor Society has recently inducted its newest members to their elite group.  The NHS sets the standard for academic excellency by demanding that its members have a 3.75 or greater GPA.  If you have any questions please contact Tracey Fox

Scholars' Bowl

 Scholars’ Bowl is an academic competition based on the core curriculum of Kansas, including: Social Studies, Math, Natural Science, Language Arts, Foreign Language and Fine Arts. They are the current 5A State Champions and are three time defending GWAL Champions!!  If you have any questions please contact Mark Berger or Charles Hill.  Bishop Carroll is hosting its second annual Tournament of Champions Scholars' Bowl on Saturday January 6.  Many of the top teams in the state will be competing, including Bishop Carroll.  Several BC alumni will be returning to help moderate and judge, but we are still in need of several individuals to serve as either judges or moderators (questions readers).

Forensics

This class focuses on individual development of speech writing, oral interpretation skills, verbal and physical creativity, acting skills, stage presence and competition proficiency.  Students may compete in speech events, acting events, or interpretation events.  Students are required to attend at least three tournaments and a regional tournament.  If you have any questions please contact Brenda Boudreau.

Student Congress

 This class focuses on a governmental approach to politics, speech writing, oral interpretation skills, presentation, and competition proficiency. Students may compete in tournaments weekly.
