   COURSE:  Beginning/Intermediate/Advanced Weight Training         CREDIT: 1/2 

   INSTRUCTOR:  Mr. Dusty Trail                                           SCHOOL YEAR: 2008-2009

    TIME FOR HELP:           I arrive at school by 7:15 a.m. most mornings. You can find me in the

                                    coaches office in the boys locker-room of the gymnasium.

                                    I will be happy to help you at this time or schedule a specific

                                    time for me to meet with you. I will be unavailable after school

                                    during the fall sports seasons, due to coaching responsibilities. 

                                    I will be available both before and after school during the winter

                                    and spring sports seasons. Parents, if you would like to visit with

                                    me, please call the school and leave a number where you can be

                             reached and I will get back to you as soon as possible or email

                             me at traildusty@bcchs.org. 

            My planning period will be from 7:55am to 9:00am if you would

            like to contact me at that time.

 GRADING:   Semester Grade = 45% - 1st 9 Weeks, 45% - 2nd 9 Weeks & 10% semester final.

                         Your 9 Weeks grade in Weight Training is composed of two elements:

                        A.     Participation:  60% of 9 Weeks grade.  Participation is most important in this class.

All students start out with 50 points for participation at the beginning of the

9 weeks.  Points will be deducted for the following reasons:

1.     All students must participate in activity of the day.  Failure to do this… -2 point

2.     Students are allowed 2 absences for any reason each 9 weeks.  After the 2nd absence,

      1 point will be deducted for each absence.  After the 4th absence, 2 points will be

      deducted for each absence.

3.     All students must be in their assigned area after dressing out. 

Failure to do this… -1 point

4.     Solid color shorts must be worn (small logo is allowed).  T-shirts must be a solid

      color as well.  Shirts must have sleeves.  B.C. shirts are OK. Must wear socks.

      If not dressed correctly, no participation that day.  –2 points

5.     Remove all jewelry. (Rings, watches, earrings, necklaces, etc.)  -1 point

6.     If you are asthmatic and use an inhaler, bring it to class or no participation.  –2 points

Students must dress out daily, unless instructed to do otherwise.  A WRITTEN EXCUSE

FROM YOUR FAMILY PHYSICIAN IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE EXCUSE FOR THIS CLASS.

NOTE:  If a student is a non-participant for 15 days during the semester due to illness or

             injury, they will have to withdraw from the class.

         

B.    Tests, and physical testing:  40% of 9 Weeks grade.

1st 9 Weeks Tests – Lifting programs, muscles, and lifts

4th 9 Weeks Test – Nutrition

Physical Testing – Bench 1 rep. max, Hang Clean 1 rep. max,

                                 Sit-ups in 1 min., Vertical Jump

 

MAKEUP WORK:  If a test or written assignment is missed due to an absence, it is the

   STUDENTS responsibility to make arrangements to make up the work.  If

   the work is not made up, a ZERO will be given for the missing assignments.

 

CHEATING POLICY:  Giving, taking, and/or being associated with the giving of information

         during a test or any other assignment will result in a grade of ZERO

         for that assignment.

 

SUSPENDED STUDENTS:  In or out of school suspension, will result in the loss of

      participation points (-2).  Written work must be made up and

      will be reduced to 50% of the total.

 

MEDICAL CONDITIONS:  Please inform your teacher of any medical condition that might

                                             be affected by Weights class.  If student was seen by a physician,

                                             the student will not be allowed to participate until a signed release

                                             is provided by the physician.

 

 

GENERAL INFORMATION:

  1. Be at  the backdoor of the gym, dressed properly, and ready to participate within 5 minutes after you have been dismissed to change.

2.    Be supportive of you classmates.

3.    Tie shoes securely for class.

4.    Ankle socks are okay, but socks must be worn.

5.    We aren’t allowed to eat or drink in the weight room or locker room.

6.    After showers, deposit your towel in the proper place.

7.    Clothes worn for weights class should be laundered every Friday.  DON’T FORGET

TO BRING IT BACK ON MONDAY.

8.    You may bring shampoo, deodorant, cologne…NO GLASS CONTAINERS, PLEASE

9.    PLEASE REMEMBER TO LOCK ALL OF YOUR BELONGINGS IN YOUR LOCKER, BOTH DURING CLASS AND AFTER CLASS IS OVER.

10.  Because this is an activity class, it is important for you to suit up and participate fully, otherwise, you will get to walk during class time and lose your participation points.

 Semester Grade = 90% (18 weeks) & 10% semester final 

 Your grade in Physical Education. is composed of two elements:

 A.      TESTS:  This equals 40% of your grade

 1.      Written tests for each sport

2.      In class written assignments and questions for each sport.

3.      Physical Fitness Tests

4.      Health Work  (tests, in-class assignments)

5.      Make-ups…If a test is missed, it cannot be made up during class time.  This can be done at 7:15 AM or at the availability of your teacher.  The STUDENT has the responsibility to make these arrangements.  IF TESTS ARE NOT MADE UP…A ZERO WILL BE GIVEN FOR THE GRADE.

 B.       PARTICIPATION:  This is the other 60% of your grade.  

1.      All students must be in their assigned area after dressing out and failure to do this…-1pt.

2.      A) Uniform for Freshmen Physical Education:  Purchased at school, i.e. Green shorts, green and white reversible shirt, crew or tube plain white socks (NO LOGOS, NO ANKLE SOCKS).  Plain white T-shirt with sleeves or a white BCCHS shirt may be worn under reversible.    Your name must be on shirt and shorts.  -2 pts

B) Uniform for Advanced Physical Education:  Solid color shorts, i.e. Green, gold, gray, white, black, blue.  (Small logo OK).  Shirts must be solid color, white, gray, green or gold, (NO LOGOS or CUT-OFFS) must have full sleeves.  BCCHS shirts are OK, crew or tube plain white socks, (NO LOGOS, NO ANKLE SOCKS).  -2 pts

If not dressed in the above uniform you will not be able to participate in class that day and points will be taken off.  You will walk or receive a written assignment.

3.      Please remove all jewelry, rings watches earrings or necklaces etc.-1 pt

4.      All students must participate in the activity of the day.  Failure to do this…-2 pts

5.      After the 4th absence, student will lose a point each day for the 9 weeks.

6.      After the 8th absence student will lose 2 points a day for the 9 weeks.

7.      Students with excuses for participation in Physical Education will be given an assignment at the discretion of the teacher.  (written or otherwise)

8.      If you are asthmatic and use an inhaler, bring it to class or you will not be able to participate.  –2 pts

9.      No gum chewing during Physical Education class!! ( Safety issue)  -2pts

10.   ALL PARTICIPATION MUST BE IN A SAFE MANNER

 **CONTINUED DISREGARD FOR THE ABOVE RULES WILL RESULT IN ADDITIONAL LOSS OF POINTS OR DETENTION. (S)  DEMERITS WILL BE ISSUED FOR ALL OTHER VIOLATIONS.

 NOTE:  Students must dress out daily unless instructed to do otherwise.  A grade is given for this class, therefore daily participation is expected.  A WRITTEN EXCUSE FROM YOUR FAMILY PHYSICIAN IS THE ONLY ACCEPTABLE EXCUSE FOR THIS CLASS.

GENERAL INFORMATION:

 1.      Be in your stretching line, dressed properly, and ready to participate within 5 minutes after your dismissal to change.

2.      Be supportive of your classmates.  We don’t allow put-downs, verbal or otherwise.  No swearing.

3.      Tie your shoes securely for class.

4.      Again, WHITE TUBE OR CREW SOCKS are the only acceptable socks to be worn.  NO ANKLE SOCKS.

5.      No food or drinks allowed in the gym or locker room.

6.      After showers, deposit your towel in the proper place.

7.      After class, when you are dressed…sit on the bench until the bell rings.

8.      Your Physical Education. uniform needs to be taken home and laundered every Friday.  DON’T FORGET TO BRING IT BACK ON MONDAY!!  The locker room is filled with athletes after school, so take your uniform with you when you leave class on Friday.

9.      You may bring shampoo, deodorant, cologne…NO GLASS CONTAINERS PLEASE…glass is not allowed in the locker room.

10.  Because this is an activity class, it is important for you to suit up when required, and participate fully, otherwise you will get to walk during class time and lose your participation points.

 Physical Education. is a fun class.  Let’s have an enjoyable year!
