Course Description

             Learning a foreign language is an extensive process and requires many years of study to become proficient. Students will acquire additional vocabulary and grammar skills.    Through reading, listening, speaking and written exercises students will achieve a developing level competence in Spanish and will be prepared for Spanish III.

Daily-Required Items

Pencil, red pen, book and workbook, spiral notebook, clear plastic sheet protector, dry erase marker

 

Course Objectives

 Following the National Standards for foreign language:  5 C’s

            Students will communicate in Spanish through oral and written communication.

            Students will create comparisons of their culture and the target culture.

            Students will develop an understanding of the cultures where Spanish is spoken.

            Students will make connections by reinforcing their knowledge of other disciplines.

            Students will use Spanish in their communities.

Classroom behavior Expectations

            Be respectful of others

            Be prepared with homework and necessary items

            Be a participant not a spectator in class

 

Grade Components (NOTE: Grades are weighted not total points)

20%  Attendance and Classroom participation  (If you miss 10 or more days in a semester

you will receive a 0 for participation, regardless if absences are excused or unexcused)

            45%  Tests and Quizzes

            20%  Homework

            15%  Projects and Papers

           

            *Grades will be posted weekly. Foreign language tests require a minimum of two days

for grading.           

 

Late Assignments/ Extra Credit/ Cheating

No late assignments will be accepted.

            No extra credit will be given.  Do your regular work and no extra will be needed.

            Cheating will result in an automatic 0 and more importantly a loss of trust.

 

Absence Policy

1. Work Assigned prior to an excused absence is due on the date of return or on the due date.

2.  All quizzes and test must be made up by appointment within three school days.  

3.  Unexcused absences or suspension will result in zeros for assignments missed.

4.      Assignments missed because of school-related activities must be turned in prior to absence or on the day of return.

5.      If you are absent contact another member of the class to find out the assignment.

 

Classroom Procedures

1.      Students will be assigned seats and ready to learn when the bell rings.

2.      Students will be dismissed by the teachers at the end of class not by the bell.

3.      Cheating is a SERIOUS offense and will NOT be tolerated. Cheating will result in an automatic zero.

4.      Student participation is critical to success in this class. Students must speak in the target language and limit usage in English.

            Somos así: Listos by James Funston

            *Do not share books or workbooks with other students.

Recommended items:  Spanish English dictionary, 501 Spanish Verbs

            Inappropriate behavior will not be tolerated in an Honors class and will affect your grade.

            50% Conversations Skills: oral and listening tests, quizzes, and presentations

            50% Written Skills:  tests, homework, written projects

·        Foreign Language test require a minimum of two days to grade.

**Please do NOT email me if you are gone for only one or two days of class. Please contact another student in the class for the missing work.
