Bishop Carroll Catholic High School

New Testament Objectives

  1.       This class is a basic course on Christology as the life of Christ who is the Messianic fulfillment of the Old Testament is studied through the New Testament of the Sacred Scripture (in the 4 Gospels) as well as in Sacred Tradition (Catechism of the Catholic Church and Liturgy).

  2.      Special attention is given to showing how Jesus and many important New Testament events fulfill the biblical types found in the Old Testament.

  3.       The course also provides an introduction to the study of the Acts of the Apostles, the Letters and Epistles and the Book of Revelation.

  4.      The students are given opportunities to continue to make Scripture an integral part of their daily prayer life.

  5.       The course ends with a survey of key verses from each of the books of the New Testament.

  6.     In Honors Class, exegetical work requiring a more thorough understanding and detailed analysis of the New Testament will be demanded.

“Drink of the cup of the Old and the New Testament, in both you will find Christ.”  - St. Ambrose

“To be ignorant of the Scripture is to be ignorant of Christ.”  - St. Jerome

“This is my beloved Son, with whom I am well pleased; listen to him.”

- Matthew 17:15

“Do not think that I have come to abolish the law or the prophets.  I have come not to abolish but to fulfill.”

- Matthew 5:17

“I came so that they might have life and have it more abundantly.”

- John 10:10

“For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him might not perish  but might have eternal life.”

- John 3:16

The Holy Bible, Understanding the Scriptures, 3 ring binder, 3 hole notebook filler paper, blue/black pen, highlighter marker, BCCHS Agenda, art materials, compilation of  handouts/tests/work…

Daily Routine

1.  Beginning Class:  When the bell rings, everyone must be in proper seats, stand for and join in the opening prayer.  Demerits for tardiness will be given after the opening prayer.

2.  During Class:  Only the materials needed for class each day, especially the Holy Bible, must be on every student’s desk.  Demerits will be given for not having the materials needed for class each day.  Students will not be given permission to go their lockers.  Unnecessary items will be forwarded to the office and may only be returned at the end of the semester.  Entire class time must be utilized for the class work or activity assigned by the teacher.  Class participation is expected from every student.  The achievement of the course goals is the responsibility of each student.  Everyone is expected to maintain daily notes on all lessons and activities.  Dates must be written before the left margin of the paper.  Cleanliness must be maintained and is the responsibility of every student.  Any form of class interruption will mean a corresponding demerit.  Class interruption refers to anything that distracts the teacher and/or students in class and diverts the focus from the lesson or activity.   Full participation, utmost piety and reverence are expected during prayer, Holy mass, Adoration and similar activities.  Appropriate volume of voice is expected in prayer activities and sacraments.  Students are to seat together as a class during All School Masses.  Only five students at a time may go to the Sacrament of Reconciliation on scheduled days.  (Note:  2nd and 3rd Hour Classes on Tuesdays and Thursdays…Mass / Study)

3.  Ending Class:  Everyone says the short closing prayer, “Praised be Jesus Christ… now and forever!”  Demerits noted by the teacher during class for any class misconduct or non-compliance will be given after the closing prayer.

Other Guidelines

Other Guidelines:

1.  Tardies/absences/make-up work:  Any student is responsible for whatever is missed due to any absence.  Upon return to class, the student must be prepared with any assigned work or test that may be given on that day.  Any missed assignment or class work will mean a grade of zero(0) for that assignment or class work.  Consideration is upon the discretion of the teacher.(# day rule)

2.  Handing in work:  Work is to be be collected by and given directly to the teacher.  Any requirement will be accepted only on or before the deadline.  Opportunities for extra credit work will be upon the discretion of the teacher.

3.  Formats for written work:  Deductions will be given when directions and formats are not followed.

4.  Answering and Asking questions:  Students may raise their hand to indicate that they want to answer or ask questions.  They may do so when the teacher calls their name.

5.  Going to restroom/nurse/office:  Limited passes will be given to go to the restroom, nurse or office.(5 passes on p158/quarter)

6.  Homework:  Every student is responsible for homework given.  The teacher may give a quiz on any homework assigned even before class discussion.

7.  Testing Procedures:  Quizzes may be given at any time.  A regular quiz will be given every Friday.  A Long Test will be given every month.  A student who cheats in any test or class work will be given zero (0) for the particular test or class work and will incur deductions in class behavior grade plus a corresponding demerit.  Misspelled words are considered wrong answers.  Within two (2) days from the date of the missed test, any student who for a valid reason needs to take a special test must be responsible for setting with the teacher the date, time and place for the said special test.  Any special test may include additional essay questions.  A student who fails to take a special test for any missed test will be given zero (0) for that test. Corrected Work earns back ½ points.

8.  STEWARD test:  The results of the STEWARD Test will be reflected in the semester grade.

9.  School Policy:  All school rules (especially on uniform and on gum/candy/food/drink) stated in the Agenda are enforced in class.  Non-compliance will mean demerits and/or detention.  Please refer to school policy for any other item not covered in this general guideline sheet.  This class is a NO GUM CLASS.  Students may bring in unfinished beverages in covered bottles but they may not drink in the classroom.

10.  Anything contrary to a Christ-like disposition and behavior is unacceptable.
