Keyboarding & Word Processing, South-Western Publishing, 2006

Purpose:

This class is designed for students to learn keyboarding using touch typing, proper technique and keying habits.  Other skills that will be focused on and integrated will be time management, computer literacy, and document production and formatting.

Supplies:

$  Students are expected to bring their binder and other required supplies to class EVERY DAY.  They will not be allowed to leave the classroom to get these materials. 

$  Binder clarification:  1 inch with clear view covers (slip covers on the front to put a paper in, there will be one on display in class).

$  Textbook and computer paper will be provided.  The class fee that you have already paid covers the provided items.

 

Attendance:

$  Students should be in their seat and begin work when the bell rings.  Otherwise they will be tardy and a demerit will be issued (refer to demerit policy in student handbook). Please use the Restroom between classes.

$  Students are not permitted to leave the room during class, with the exception of office notes and teacher discretion and restroom passes.  Restroom passes will be limited to the first and last two (2) minutes of class unless it is an ABSOLUTE DIRE emergency.  Abuse will result in disciplinary action, and at no point is use to become a habit.

$  Participation points will not be awarded for absences, regardless of reason, but may be made up by attending one before or after school lab session within the five (5) school day period following the absence(s) to regain those participation points.  (It is also imperative to notify the teacher you are there to make up points, as they will not be marked otherwise.)  Also, participation points will be reduced for tardiness as well.

Absences:

1.      It is the students’ responsibility to obtain missed assignments when absent as well as make arrangements for instruction on those assignments.

2.      Arrangements for completing assignments to be missed must be made as soon as possible before going on a prearranged absence.

3.      Assignments missed due to in-school or out-of-school suspension or unexcused absences will not receive credit for those assignments that were due or issued on that day.

 

Assignments:

1.       Turn assignments as directed. 

2.       Late assignments will not be accepted.

3.       Assignments due on the day of an unanticipated absence are to be turned in the day returning to class.

4.       Two school days are given in which to make up the assignments that were missed due to unanticipated absence.

5.       Cheating is absolutely unacceptable and will result in a zero for all involved.

6.       Make-up work needs to be completed before or after school in one of the Business Computer Labs. Calendars noting availability are posted outside of the door or make an appointment.

7.       Participation points should be maintained by doing the following:  demonstrating on task behavior, having and using class binder, being an active participant in class discussions and lectures, regular and on time attendance, meeting classroom expectations (which include, but are not limited to, care of books, equipment, area, and login).

 

Behavior:

 

1.       Food, drinks, and backpacks/purses are not permitted in the room due to the extensive expensive equipment used here.

2.      Responsible and studious behavior is expected.  This includes treating others, equipment, and books with respect.  You are responsible for your workstation and the assigned materials.  If your computer and/or book are damaged, you will be responsible for the repairs or replacement.

3.     Food and drinks are not permitted.  Gum is acceptable as long as it is quiet and disposed of properly.

4.     Storage media from home requires a scan (ask how). 

5.     Unauthorized internet use, downloading, email, instant/net messaging, or games are not permitted and at minimum will result in a demerit.

6.     Please do not make any changes to the computer without specific teacher direction.

7.     Push in chairs, straighten area, return all materials, and remove all personal belongings before leaving.

Computer Applications Business

Southwestern – Shelley Cashman Series – Office 2000 Introductory

Purpose:

This class is designed to expand and build the knowledge of and skills in basic computers and design, word processing, spreadsheet, and database usage using Microsoft Office 2000.  Also, to build basic knowledge and skills of Office integration.

Computer Applications- Multimedia

Text:

Various provided books.

Purpose:

To help students learn the meaning of multimedia and to understand and practice the fundamentals required for creating diverse multimedia projects. Students will be challenged with real-world projects by forcing them to analyze, synthesize, and use creative thinking skills to solve problems and complete tasks.

Students will use and learn about Computers, Internet, Microsoft Publisher, PhotoShop, PowerPoint 2000, Video and Sound Editing, Digital Cameras.
